Holiday Weekend and so much more…..
I most certainly did the right thing by staying for July 4th this year – it was AWESOME!
The whole week was mapped out fully with bars and restaurants around town offering food and fun every single evening. Unfortunately we had planned to visit Sarasota on Monday and Tuesday but we attended the great evening at South Shores which was open to everyone right after the Captains meeting and of course, one last dance practise for us in the usual venue of the PNC car park (phew in 91 degrees). It was a good practise and at some point in the dancing a gorgeous young lady clad in fishnets and suspenders joined in and was such fun. She was a ballet dancer and picked up the moves in no time at all, if she had been at the official dance, we would have won hands down just because of her but it was not to be…..she had to visit family! That has happened on each dance practise, someone has tagged on out of the blue, usually a young man, and this has always energised the group. We must look an absolute scream, for all the world you would think it was the seniors of lake Worth keep fit programme. Where else would you see this happening?
Sarasota was great, beautiful white, sandy beaches that stretched for miles as if a disappearing white silk ribbon on the horizon. Glorious shops, restaurants and cute bars scattered around and The Ringling Art Museum………WOW! What generous people Mabel and John Ringling were to leave this beautiful estate to the community, if you have never been GO! You will not be disappointed. The icing on the cake for us was that we went to the entrance and were told everything is free on Monday, what a bonus…saving of $50….woohoo! The grounds, the art collections, the house…….mind boggling and absolutely well worth seeing.
We chose the local hostelries recommended and on Monday evening went to Marine Jack, right on the ocean flanked by million dollar yachts for sale, we ate and drank tequilas….what more can I say!
Tuesday was a beach day for a couple of hours, that fine sand, just the right amount of breeze and to cap it all a small shoal of silver flying fish sailed right over our heads at one point…magical.
Returning on Wednesday and guess what? You got it, another dance practise right after the Suri event, our last one….boy, that one was hot! And we nailed it……all in step at last although those watching the performance at the race would not have thought so but it was huge fun. I loved the dance that won, the costumes and dance was perfect for the event….go Eden Place!
Thursday was bike night, over to Benny’s, a fun night enjoyed by all…….then back over the bridge to The Bamboo Rooms for and exciting time..…I realise now that my night club days have long gone, I love to dance and listen to music but I hate to shout to be heard….but it was fun and certainly brought back many memories
Now I know that Anna Maria has filled you all in on the events of the Raft Race so I will not bore you with any more but I do want to finish by saying that this event made me realise why I love this place so much…the support from people lining the route, the fun and wonderful friends we have made all made this an event to remember. I am so grateful and humbled to be part of it all and to be treated as a Lake Worthian rather than a British visitor by everyone…….thank you, have a wonderful week!
Editors note:I’ve invited one more professional photographer to share her take on the raft race event with 12 images and that will be the end of the Rif Raft 2015 event. anyone else have some photos they want to share by all mean send them in. . we could not be everywhere.
