There are some awesome photographers here in town. I would like to showcase Tom Johnson’s ‘ 12 photos, he doesn’t work with a point and shoot so was able to focus on the action as it happened out on the water. We all wish we had a camera like his in these circumstances. Especially the skirmishes we heard off. Thank you for allowing me to show these photos.
Still like to share the appreciation from the crowd that came out during the rain to line the streets in anticipation. When we first arrived in the park normally the seawall is packed yesterday it was empty but by the time the first heat started the seawall was full. In all the excitement there are several stories that need to be shared. Everyone heard the shouts for Dick Dick Dick. That was in honor of Morag Dick who was in this race last year and was not able to make it, however her spirit was everywhere.
“Every year the PBH3 running club goes to Marathon, Florida for the 7 MileBridge run, and every year Kevin Ogonowski creates and sells his handmadetie dye shirts after the race. This year Kevin wanted to donate the proceeds from the shirts to something in the memory of his friend Morag Dick. When he asked Morag’s husband Dave Wilson what that would be, the response was immediate: “The Lake Worth Library”. Kevin went through two printings of the shirts, and raised $250. Ananonymous donor matched that, for a total of $500.
Dave, Morag’s sister Shona Murphy, and Suzette Owens attended the library board meeting on June 30 to present a check, accepted by board member Sam Goldstein . Board member Vickie Joslin asked what sort of books Morag liked and who her favorite authors were, and stated that the library would purchase books in those categories. Board Member Mark Parrilla was also in attendance, and he remembered Morag from her days when she was a member of the board.
After that we all retired to Suri’s, to plan the Downtown JewelNeighborhood Association raft race strategy.”
Editors note: tomorrow from the point of view from a 1st time attendee.
