The Week Before Flag Day………started on an excited note for me as The Bette Midler Concert In Boston drew ever closer. But first I had other commitments like the pool party my friend was holding for her class of Grade 4 students! The children were wonderful and had a ball in the pool, calling out for me to watch them dive (or bellyflop), swim underwater, complete a handstand, climb on each others shoulders, time them in a race….asking me endless questions about England and attempting to copy my English accent…..what a great class and what a great afternoon! Thank you Andrea Michelle – I loved helping out!
The food trucks invaded in the evening and actually ran out of food! There were so many people there, it resembled a huge street party. People were sitting o9n the grass eating picnic style, people were standing at the tall tables, laughing and joking, calling across to each other, making new friends. The Children were playing with hulahoops and running and having fun with each other whilst parents and friends sat watching. A wonderful atmosphere, coupled with the glorious smells of food, it was a perfect Lake Worth night. We sat in south Shores listening to Steven Vincent playing his guitar and singing along with all the songs we knew….gradually the four of became 5, then 7, then 9…..Fabulous! I did notice one thing and that was when you have a dog everyone comes and talks to you….I happened to be holding Luna, a cute puppy and everyone wanted to pet her or hold her, a very good way to make new friends….particularly if your dog happens to be cute and small!
At 5:30 on Thursday morning we headed out from PBI for Boston…bleary eyed and very excited. We met a friend when we arrived and we spent the rest of the day with her, ending up with a birthday treat for her ion Isabella’s Restaurant in downtown Dedham, a great choice!
Friday was spent being driven around all the interesting spots in Boston…ending up at The Boston Tea Party Museum where we re-enacted the whole Boston Tea Party Issues with kids from a local elementary school, who all thought it was great to throw blocks of tea into the river and attend a meeting where they were complaining about the English Government putting a tax on tea!
Then it was time….TD Gardens was the venue and Bette Midler was the entertainment and entertain she did by the bucket load! She sang, she danced, she told jokes and she kept us entertained for two and a half hours…magical and worth every penny!!!!!
We arrived back late Saturday evening and promptly fell into bed exhausted with all the good times we had experienced in Boston.
Sunday was church of course, the wonderful St Andrews where we feel so at home with the welcome we always receive there. Flag day celebrations followed at 5:30 which swiftly turned into a pool party as we left Bryant Park. What had started out as a get together for 6 people got bigger and bigger and ended up with 18 of us eating, drinking, swimming, joking and generally having the best time ever until 10:30 when we mounted our bikes to cycle home…another great day hits the dust to be replaced tomorrow by yet another fun day here in the wonderful town of Lake Worth where every day turns into a new adventure.
I hope every day this week turns into an adventure for each and every one of you!
