Good Morning Everyone, I am hoping that your weekend has been fabulous and that you achieved all that you wanted and you managed to spend some of the time merely relaxing and doing things that you enjoy!
I have had a wonderful time as usual not in Lake Worth but in Georgia. A long drive of 12 hours saw us arrive in this beautiful mountain retreat last Thursday, the perfect location for meeting with friends. I never cease to be amazed at how we can travel so far almost just on the one road, passing through towns with incredible names and dwellings, at some point we lost the palm trees and they were replaced with trees which were denser and forests began to appear either side of the road and we could have been driving on one of our motorways in England. The temperature changed dramatically….from the 88 degrees of Florida it changed to 79….73…..68 and finally back up to the 70s for our stay here.
Styles of houses change hugely and at times we could have been driving back in the UK. Our arrival took us through the busy town of Atlanta (because we took a wrong turn instead of skirting around the city) then on to the wilds of Georgia, up and up twisting and turning roads and low lying cloud until we saw our welcome party on the wrap around porch of the most wonderful wood cabin way at the top of this tortuous road….what a relief! All the stresses of a 12 hour drive melted away as we were handed Margaritas and hugs…..
We talked, we ate, we laughed, we caught up, we per used flea markets, talked to locals, ate in both local and not so local (South Carolina) restaurants and had and incredibly lovely time….nothing better!
And today we drive back to Lake Worth, our home from home where we will not receive the margaritas upon arrival but will nevertheless experience a feeling of happiness as we open the door to the house we love in this town and another adventure has ended; remembered often in the future precied by ‘…do you remember when…….?”
Meanwhile back in England they have been promised a magnificently hot Summer starting next week, everyone is breathing a huge sigh of relief as the weather has been so varied and not at all settled. There was even an earthquake, a minor one but an experience nevertheless which was followed by a flurry of photographs on face book depicting the devastation…….coffee cups overturned, a garden chair knocked over, a waste bin blown down the road…….all very dangerous stuff, that weird British sense of humour again!
Our half term school holiday has finished and all the students and staff in UK schools are heading towards the Summer break as they embark upon the last of the examinations in High Schools and enjoy the festivities in Primary Schools. Her in Florida the Summer term ends on Thursday and it is my last voluntary day on Tuesday, I shall miss my weekly day in school…..the rush and hurry of the classes and the endless questions about my accent….st
