Editors Note:  yes   My post on the Tuppens Marine  was visited via this blog over  400 some times.  Now not everyone commented.  Some are shy, some think it will take care of itself.  Others had an opinion but the fact that so many people did read it there was curiosity and some decent dialogue.  To be honest sometimes I wonder if anyone cares or visits this blog.  Thank you all for participating.  Long live Tuppins !               TWO TWO CALLS TO ARTISTS  this one is for next weekend. 27e91630-cfbd-49da-9cbd-36b184f9a51d

Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County is all about “Opening Doors.” We do it on many levels, both figuratively and literally. Not only do we open physical doors of Habitat homes, we open doors for deserving families to own a home and learn how to manage finances. We open doors for others to contribute to the betterment of our community. And soon we’ll be opening the doors to our new ReStore, which is all about repurposing, recycling and sustainability. Families can donate their household items, which in turn can be sold for money that will help families in need open doors to their own homes. Your door will be artfully recycled as a symbol for Habitat for Humanity Palm Beach County building hope and homes in our community. But do not feel limited by this specific suggestion. Be creative. We welcome your own interpretations of the themes of “opening doors” and “upcycling.”

You will be able to select your own door at Habitat’s current ReStore at 6831 N. Military Trail, Riviera Beach.

What are the benefits to participating?

The selected artists will display their doors at the new ReStore and be on hand to discuss their art at the grand opening sneak preview for Habitat benefactors on Thursday, June 18, 2015. Artists will also be promoted in all collateral, social media, advertising and public relations. Eventually, the doors will become part of a Habitat for Humanity Palm Beach County ReStore permanent display. A placard acknowledging the respective artist will accompany each door.

What are the prizes?

The “Judges Favorite” and “Viewers Choice” artists will each receive a unique Habitat for Humanity of PalmBeach County award, a $100 ReStore gift certificate, and the opportunity to appear as a guest on the Habitat Home Show on Newsradio 1290 WJNO, which airs on Saturdays at noon.  All runners up will receive certificates of appreciation and $50 ReStore Gift Certificates.

Who are the judges and what will the criteria be for winning?

Judges will be local leaders in the art community. Judges will base their decisions on artistic excellence and originality in reflection of the theme. Judges will also consider:

  • Is the theme clear and easily understood?
  • Does the art explore the theme in an unusual or previously unexplored manner?
  • Will the art and its message prompt discussion?

Deadlines are as follows:

  • Applications must be submitted online by 5 pm Friday, May 22, 2015.
  • Confirmation of participation will be sent via email from Habitat for Humanity Palm Beach County  by 5 pm Wednesday, May 27, 2015.
  • Doors may be picked up from the existing ReStore, located at 6831 N. Military Trail, Riviera Beach beginning on Thursday, May 28, 2015 through Saturday, May 30, 2015. ReStore Hours are Monday  through Friday, 10 am to 6 pm and Saturdays, 10 am – 4 pm.
  • Completed doors must be delivered to the new ReStore location at 4639 Lake Worth Rd., Greenacres  (Mil Lake Plaza) on Tuesday or Wednesday, June 16 or June 17, 10 am – 4 pm.

NO submission fee?

Does the artwork have any requirements?

  • Doors are selected via first come first served.
  • Please use only one door.
  • Please confine all artwork within the perimeter of the door.
  • Please create artwork on only one side of the door.
  • Must retain vertical orientation of door.
  • Please refrain from affixing objects to surface that could be removable.
  • HFHPBC will supply stand to hold door upright for display.

When will judging take place and how will I be notified?

Judging will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2015 prior to the event. Prizes will be awarded at the special grand opening sneak preview event on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Do I retain the rights to my art?

We appreciate the donation of your time and talent while keeping this artwork an exclusive feature of the Habitat Restore. Portfolio use is encouraged, however, artists will be required to identify their artwork as having been produced to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, Inc.

What if I have additional questions?

Please contact Jeni Davidson at (561) 366-2532 or jenda@habitatpbc.org   application
