Greetings Lake Worth

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope that 2015  image copy 12is full of wonderful things for all my lovely friends and bloggers in Lake Worth, it certainly has the capacity to be amazing as I read about all the events taking place and the new plans taking shape for our fabulous town!

Well, time certainly overtook us when we returned to the UK and it did not take long for the usual busy events to start and before long time was being eaten up. Here in England there has been an epidemic of bugs and viruses, not those of the computer kind, but those of the kind that pass from individual to individual  and sap your energy. Very few people escaped but thank goodness it seems to be waning, thank goodness.

Christmas was good, as usual it was over far too quickly after the time and effort that had been spent on preparing for the event. It is the same every year, we look back and wonder where it all went. We were in Worcestershire to celebrate Christmas….it is the most gorgeous part of our country, surrounded by countryside that stretches for miles and nestled just above the River Severn where houseboats and barges glide effortlessly along  the river, taking time to take in their surroundings. Our house is a converted barn built into the side of a castle and aptly named Castle Cottage… beautiful! We spent time walking and eating and chatting and playing games and visiting local areas. Each year here local companies and artists and schools decorate Christmas Trees   image 3which are displayed in Worcester Cathedral…..afabulous sight! As is tradition here, the Queen’s speech on Christmas Day at 3pm is watched by most families, although I am sure the younger generation just tolerate it…amazingly enough this programme was top of the most watched programme on Christmas Day. The Queen is so popular and loved by most people, she spoke about reconciliation, a great speech about how everyone, everywhere needs to make an effort to reconcile with those we may be at variance with…..families, neighbours, other countries……a good idea!

New Year was fabulous, obviously all around the world celebrations take place and I love to watch it all as country by country with all the time differences create a fantastic display. Last year we were in London which was amazing, the atmosphere is electric, people from all over the world celebrating together all differences put aside!!image 7

Have you all made New Year resolutions? Every year, I come up with resolutions that are never going to be kept, so this year I have tried to be more realistic, let’s see if it works. We have a big thing here every January where we are encouraged to give up alcohol for January and donate the money to cancer research…works a treat and lots of money is raised for a good cause.

images-1The only problem this year is that we have had a 60th birthday to celebrate and so in honour of that we are starting our dry January as from next week because we are also setting off for Budapest tomorrow for five days to celebrate. I love city breaks and here in the UK we are so lucky to be able to get to Europeso easily. I am so looking forward to the trip, The Hotel Budapest, the Wes Anderson film which has been nominated for so many awards showed the most amazing sights, watch this space for photos and updates!!!

Well, Lake Worth never sleeps and I love that the new visitor centre is up and running, I was so hoping it would be completed before we left in December so we could play an active part but that will have to wait until we return in April. But rest assured I shall be watching it all very closely, I know it is going to be a huge success. And what about the amazing Christmas Pedlars? That was incredible, really well organised and all looked so much fun. I loved the music that Mel chose and had playing from the speaker on her bike….brilliant! I love Mel and Vinnie and the energy they bring with them wherever they go. AnnaMaria posts the usual amazing photos and continues to keep everyone up tospeed with what is going on in Lake Worth, could not do without her blog, I am so honoured to be a part of it all.image 4

And something I am so excited about is that our poppies arrived! They were the poppies created for the display at The Tower of London, they are beautiful and every single one has been ordered, they sold out within two weeks. I ordered ours in August and they arrived two days ago, I feel so proud to have them. And one is wending it’s way to AnnaMaria when we return, I promised her I would get one for her, I like that it will be in Lake Worth.image 5

Not so all over England of course, up in the North and in Scotland there has been snow and extreme weather. The skies have been glorious, bright blue and pink and gold in the late afternoons, beautiful! Long may it last……And so, my next blog will be from Budapest, I am sorry for the delay over the last two weeks, all is now back on track.

Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy everything and stay well and  happy!

Your blog is the one I love seeing in my inbox, we share a love of Lake Worth (born in WPB) and the fact my husband and I are major anglophiles and have been to England at least 15 times in the last 30 years. Our hope was to move someday back to Palm Beach County but this may not be, but we are (in our hearts) hoping when we retire to spend 6 months in England, near Oxford, and experience the beauty of Christmas. Thank you so much for your colourful posts and someday (we’ll be there Jan 23/24) we’ll see each other in Lake Worth. We usually stay at the Mango Inn and walk, dine and enjoy the wonderful nighttime atmosphere of downtown LW. Thanks!! Mary Ann & Jeff Clifford
