Friday saw the opening of Rolando Chang Barrero Art Gallery it was the former boutique adjacent to the Webber Gallery. Looks like Lucerne Ave is the place for art. The opening was a smashing success, and so it should be. The artwork is fresh, quality high . Artists represented are friends from Miami all the way up the treasure coast. Monique Lassooij was on hand. You have to see the body of work to appreciate her take on iconic figures. Link provided≥ Here is an artist with impeccable technique, trained in the Netherlands. Also on hand was Aidana Baldassarriea resident of Lake Worth Beach wearing one of her amazing dresses made of bike inner tubes. Her line is called Trash Fashions. Now is a good time to search out that recycled gift for the socially conscious environmentalists.
Mayor Pam Triolo was there for the ribbon cutting, welcoming the crowd that gathered early wanting to meet her on this special occasion. Paparazzi could not get enough. There are promises of Lake Worth Beach soon to rival other S. Florida Art scenes.
The evening was a success as when everything else shut down in town the RCB Gallery patrons had spilled out onto Lucerne Ave. . Although Rolando does not look the years, he states he got his start in Coconut Grove with the likes of Artists Romero Britto and even before Fred Hunt, Leonard King. Good Luck Rolando! It’s not luck but hard work and he has been working it.
Editors NOTE a bit of S. fl. art history. i.e. Coconut Grove found photos of Monique, Fred, Leonard King and Barry Massin http://oneearsociety.blogspot.com/2009/06/another-opening.html#links
