Recognized today on the steps of Lake Worth’s City Hall was marriage equality. Many many couples turned out, married and some about to be married. They were asked to bring a plaquards indicating where they were married and what did that union cost. I would had estimated Florida lost approximately $250,000 upwards in revenue from our small area alone. Then I spotted one that cost $75,000 well lets bring those numbers right up, as I seriously started the tally what I saw. Right up to around $500.000. That is the amount spent by the couples who turned up on Lake Worth’s City Hall steps Sunday.
Until Florida makes the changes, there will be revenue lost that could be spent right here in our tropical paradise. One sign had plans to travel to Hawaii anyone know the airfare for two, plus add in the immediate family. (just goggled AA for two round trip, yikes)
Lake Worth recently opened its newly constructed Casino building by our beach that is ideal for banquets, private parties and perfect for seaside fantasea weddings. Officiating at Sundays event was our openly gay commissioner Andy Amaroso with our Mayor Palm Triolla who read the proclamation, recognizing the LBGT community in our city.
Present also were political dignitaries and human rights activists. A cake was served to the 300 some guests at the end of the event symbolizing the union, it read MARRY ME FLORIDA!
The Gay Pride weekend is this coming Saturday and Sunday. Many parties and are already underway with a big two day musical event in Bryant Park. The parade theme this year is Fantasea, very appropriate given our seaside location.

Absolutely support gay marriage, but I don’t know if the amount of business lost makes any difference to those who don’t. But who knows, one would think with our gay population and the fact that we are a gay tourist destination that lots of places, hotels, resorts, etc. would be supporting gay marriage for the money alone. I think if Key West, both a wedding destination and a gay tourist area, those resorts could certainly cash in.
