The Cottages of Lake Worth Inc. participated and had a cottage depicted in chalk in this years Festival. There are over 1,000 cottages here in Lake Worth in every arrondissement* of our town. They are all quaint, charming, and loved. Many in the hands of owners who are currently refurbishing them. Who wouldn’t want to live 5 min. from the beach in a cottage by the sea. Proud Lake Worth Cottage owners, presenting at their last meeting. This past weekend the group brought in an artist from Coral Gables. The Cottages of Lake Worth sponsored this particular space. Some of the Street Painters come from Atlanta and some from as far as California. An early check in 7 a.m. the first thing to happen, you have to prep the street to take on the chalk and make it more visible.this is prepping the street. The black makes the chalk colors glow.
It looks easy and fun from the spectators point of view, but this is 8 hours in the hot sun on your knees. By noon the streets are full of people crowding around and watching the process. And of course it did rain, and has in the past two years. This could spell
disaster, meaning a whole days work washed away, seriously. Day two the sun has burned off the dew from the nights rain fall and now comes fine tuning detailing for the finale. Day two The crowd has now buldged into 100,000 spectators, all to see the 400 some artists at the 20th anniversary of the Lake Worth Street Painting Festival. The art form is illusive, it is not meant to last. Certainly by the next morning it will have faded into a memory or the rains come and this year it was the rain. For the participants they have memories, we have these photos. It’s not quite over as the pain from crouching for two days comes the following day for the artists.
*quadrant, French is allowed, after all Lake Worth is known for quirky.
