Whistle while you work

During one 24 hour period I participated in, dropped by meetings that took place right here in Lake Worth Beach.  Lots is going on and being planned by this hand full of people and it is not coming down from the podium of City Hall, these are citizens who are invested in our community.  All have lives outside their stalwart* efforts.   Needless to say volunteers always welcome.   Check in with City Hall and see which board could use your skills.  Snowbirds welcome, every little bit helps our community shine.   DSCN4749                                                               This is the board of the Lake Worth Art League.  The oldest art organization in Palm Beach County.  Their membership is close to 200 and they always welcome new members, they offer classes,  they mount monthly juried art exhibitions.  and have formed partnerships with Delray Art League and twice a month have combined outdoor showcases of member artists.  One weekend on our Cultural Plaza and then on the inter-coastal park in Delray.  They recently opened a gift shop for small works of original art.                                                                                                                               DSCN4756 This is our Lake Worth City Tree Board they meet once a month and are in the process of putting together its 9th Annual Festival of Trees on Saturday, Jan 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..  Participants will provide advice, do demonstrations and trees will be for sale, so come early.  This year there will also be a tree dedication.  City of Lake Worth boards i.e. Recreation Board which meets tonight at the Shuffleboard Courts provide assistance to the City Commission.                                                                                                      DSCN4757 This is the Tropical Ridge Neighborhood Assoc.  one of 16  NA in the City of Lake Worth. They work hard to make the city a safe place to live.  They act as the conduit about  issues hard for individuals to deal with as a resident or homeowner and get those issues to the correct department be it PBSO, Fire Marshall, or CODE department.  Have a problem? Contact your Neighborhood Association remember these boards are volunteer based.  All NA are  members of the NAPC. Neighborhood Association Presidents Council.                                                                                                                      DSCN4764 This was the MOD meeting at Brogues acronym for Merchants of Downtown their concerns differ from neighborhoods and they take out time to promote our town and self regulate their efforts.  On the table this meeting was how to make downtown viable via a happening.  Suggested was street closures for very special events.  Promotional Advertising.  There is another organization downtown which is the DCA Downtown Cutlural Alliance which hires the music and puts on  Evening on the Avenues.  All these folks are volunteers and they  work work work for the benefit of our Lake Worth Beach without being compensated.  Be nice to them, help them, and by all means join one of them and BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE  Before I end this have you heard about the Cottages of Lake Worth another recently organized group who is DOING their utmost to bring a very positive spin to our quirky Lake Worth.   Here are some photos of things going to currently to make it all better.   DSCN4769 DSCN4766                                                  Tomorrows blog will be about “Artists as Entrepreneurs”                                                                                     DSCN4743 *Stalwart meaning
