Outside on the Insiderblog July 1

from our Guest Blogger Chris

Hello everyone, I hope your week has been good for you. I had a great week, busy as usual, but fun! I really do not know where the time goes…I have to think hard about everything I have accomplished over the last 7 days. I have a friend who is taking a trip to Russia and one of the requirements on the application form is to list your travel over the last 10 years,     PerleyDiary841
both where and when you travelled. She was able to accomplish this task simply because she keeps a diary and at any given moment can look back and recall where she was on a certain date and what she was doing.       Great if you ever had to answer the question in court about where you were at a certain time on a certain day! I would not be able to complete that form accurately, simply because I do not keep a diary and the days when you got a stamp in your passport no matter which country or state you travelled to, have long gone. I used to love to look through my passport and see all the various stamps placed willy-nilly though out the pages.         Diaries also serve to remind you of all the people that go in and out of your life at various times, some of course, you never forget, others needs the particular excerpt in the diary to bring back memories.  Diaries also if-youre-22serve to help you forward plan. You certainly need one here in Lake Worth with something going on all the time…whether it be inflatable water tanks, bands or solo musicians, fundraisers, meals, meetings, bike rides and so much more…..My diary starts today and I am rather looking forward to being able to recall my movements, and much more. I would be interested to know how many of you keep a diary.Talking about people we meet reminded me that are many inspirational and interesting people right here in Lake Worth. We find them in the most unexpected places or circumstances at times. For instance, I met a woman at church, she is 88 and probably one of a kind. She has a great name…Glory B King;         imageI had seen her many times but never spoken to her until I sat at the same table as her for coffee after the service. She had been a trailblazer in her time, setting up a family counseling centre where she used many forward thinking techniques to help people who were in crisis. At aged 70 she felt her vocation was in the church and attended the seminary but upon completion of her course she found they would not ordain her, maybe her age! Anyway, she knew she could not spend her time not working or rising to a challenge, so she now teaches bible classes…I was both fascinated and utterly inspired by her spirit and desire to stay up to date. I wonder how many fabulous people we miss by not taking the time to speak to them……so I set myself the challenge of meeting at least two new people every week…..if any one wants to join me, let me know and we can all exchange findings and share them with others. At the Art Spirit afternoons on Tuesday and Thursday, there are always different people joining, if you are free maybe you could give it a go, you could meet new people and maybe learn a new skill…….Thank you, have a wonderful July 4th…I am so excited because I have never been here for this holiday……TETRRF-00024113-001

I don’t keep a diary, but this blog has got me thinking about starting to keep one.
