Monday evening there were two meetings at City Hall. I had no say so, in the matter of the difficult decision which the Juice Board is grappling with, damned if they do and damned if they don’t. The other was Sister Cities Board. I was invited to make a presentation about Mail-Art. Mail-Art is a small component of our Centennial Event. While attending found myself fascinated with the information via the power point presentation given by Commissioner Mulvehill. If nothing else we can and should hold a mirror to ourselves and be positive. Sopot, Poland came from behind the Iron Curtain to be an important tourist destination. The other South-end-Sea, England, had it’s recession, to once again flourish. Both are on the ocean as we and both have noteworthy Piers. The one in South-end-Sea is so long they provide a trolley to reach the end. Both have in recent history undergone changes, that has catapulted them into major tourist destinations. There are so many similarities and then so many how come we don’t embrace this or that. Each has made tourist accommodations a priority. These towns embrace the arts and support the athletics with programs and facilities which are to die for. I’m having positive expectations. Also present from South-end-Sea are two bi-coastal residents who also call Lake Worth home half the year. (the two on far right)
Mail-Art is a project which brings positive attention to the fact Lake Worth is 100. Definitely young compared to our Sister Cities. So the word is out that we are celebrating. Mail-Art at first glance seems a lovely pass time. It has no monetary value but it nurtures creativity, teaches geography. The value is in the aesthetics, they joy of creating and receiving. Send your embellished envelopes in recognition of Lake Worths Centennial to: Lake Worth City Hall 7 n. Dixie Highway Lake Worth Fl. 33460 on back of envelope put your e mail add if you want notification of it’s arrival. Also there is this site you should check periodically to see what has arrived.
