WOW

Last night Jaffe Center for Book Arts hosted an opening for their current exhibit of 450 pop up books.  In attendance from NY was one of the most prolific artists of this genre.  Love this story about Matthew Reinhart ‘s  evolution into this art form.  Destined to be what his parents wanted, finished med school, then taking a sabbatical year in NY City.  Found himself at Pratt and emerged like his work, transformed.  Check out his web site, go to “appearances” you can see him with some of the most popular TV hosts making  pop ups.His talk was accompanied by slide and video examples of his work, which has been translated into over 50 languages for some most popular pop up books. Recognize that character above,  new one is coming out this fall for all of you Star Wars fans.  Most of his fan base was tucked into bed by the time we saw how these books were made, all by hand.  The crowed that did show, truly appreciated the skill and dedication it takes to produce such intricate works.  We got far more than anticipated in this gallery talk.  Thank YOUWaiting to have their books signed, what a treat.
